Multicompartmental Poroelastic Modelling for CSF Production and Circulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study proposes the implementation of a Multiple-Network Poroelastic Theory (MPET) model for the purpose of investigating in detail the transport of water within the cerebral environment. The advantage of using the MPET representation is that it accounts for fluid transport between CSF, brain parenchyma and cerebral blood. They key novelty in the model discussed in the present study is the amalgamation of anatomically accurate Choroid Plexus regions, with their individual feeding arteries. This model is used to demonstrate the impact of aqueductal stenosis and atresia of the Foramina of Luschka and Magendie on the cerebral ventricles. The possible implications of treating such a condition with the aid of endoscopic third ventriculostomy are investigated and discussed.

In an infusion test the apparent rate of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) production is temporarily increased through injection of fluid directly into the CSF system with the result that CSF pressure rises, in theory to a new plateau average, and the change in pressure level gives a measure of resistance to CSF outflow and the rate of approach to the plateau gives information about cerebral compliance...

متن کاملAnalytic solution during an infusion test of the linear unsteady poroelastic equations in a spherically symmetric model of the brain.
This work determines the spatial and temporal distribution of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure and brain displacement during an infusion test in a spherically symmetric model of the brain. The response of CSF pressure and parenchymal displacement to blood pressure pulsations is determined in the solution. We use a spherically symmetric, three-component poroelastic model of the brain, differen...

There is emerging evidence suggesting that Alzheimer's disease is a vascular disorder, caused by impaired cerebral perfusion, which may be promoted by cardiovascular risk factors that are strongly influenced by lifestyle. In order to develop an understanding of the exact nature of such a hypothesis, a biomechanical understanding of the influence of lifestyle factors is pursued. An extended poro...
